Here for sale we have my superb (1983) Y registration Ford Escort RS 1600i in stunning factory Sunburst Red with just 54,024 miles covered. Full files of old mots and service papers to back this up. It’s a genuinely low mileage car and we’ll known in the RS1600i circle.The car is registered in my name and I have the V5. I have owned the car for 12 years during those years it has been kept garaged, and was also garaged with the previous RSOC owners. The car comes with a list of all owners as I was able to get this information from the DVLA before they stopped supplying it.
It comes with every MOT certificate that the car has ever had, right from its first when it was 3 years old and these are included in the extensive and comprehensive history file, a tribute to the previous owners attention to detail.
The car itself is standard apart from the exhaust and battery. It still runs on the unique original twin coils. Uncut parcel shelf and door cards, a rarity these days.Inside, outside and under the bonnet are all in very good condition. No sagging on the seat bolsters, in fact the Scheel RS seats are pretty much immaculate and the bodywork shows no sign of rust.In testament to the first owner it was Waxoyled from new helping to protect the car and the car still has the original date stamped wings!!The tilt and slide factory fitted sunroof works as it should and the gutter rails are immaculate.All the electrics work, lights, etc.The glass is all original Bronze tint etched with the car registration number. There are 2 keys with the car and one key fits all locks as they too are original. There is a working alarm/immobiliser fitted too.The correct period original Ford radio is also present and working and the Chrome retractable Ford aerial sits on the offside wing as it should do.
I have just had the car serviced by my local trusted Classic Car garage on 21st August 2026 ready for this sale £4000 + has been spent on her ,new cambelt, new brakes, plugs, leads K-Jetronic Fuel testing, fuel pump, wheel bearing kit, injector shocks brake cylinder new battery etc etc. The car is registered as a Historic Vehicle so no need for road tax or MOT but for peace of mind for the prospective new owner I have had a fresh MOT (20th August) put on as well to give the purchaser peace of mind.
Just after I purchased the car back in 2012 it was published in the RS calendar and a copy will be included with the sale.
The car has never been refurbished and therefore will have minor imperfections but this is all part and parcel to owning a fully original and standard classic car. As far as I can tell all panels are original. As mentioned the wings are date stamped. The wheels have been refurbished but are the correct Motorsport ones, they are fitted with brand new Toyo Proxes (fitted on 8th June prior to the service and MOT). The overiders front and rear are original and Immaculate as are the original Hella headlights and the Carello spotlights.
I’m the guy who sold the Jewel Violet RS Cosworth Monte Carlo on here back in February and also the Series One RS Turbo in April. I can assure everyone that the buyers are pleased with their new cars. Both were snapped up by buyers who know their stuff very very quicklyThe RS1600i has been professionally valued before I put it up for sale just as I did with the Cosworth Monte and the RS Turbo, Cars like these hold their money. Some people who questioned the price of those cars were proved wrong. The best cars always hold their value and more!
Remember we are talking about a car where only 8659 were built and only 2600 of those were allocated for the UK market. So a rare car these days.
There is talk that the fast Ford market has stabilised recently. I wouldn’t disagree with that completely but the standard original and non-modified cars are continuing to rise and this car is definitely one of them.
I am based in Essex but travelling for the right car should never be an issue, it never has been for me.
