1998 Vauxhall Astra Bertone Convertible 1.6
Here we have my Astra Convertible which I purchased as back in 2018 with an MOT and fully running.I then put the vehicle into storage in my Uncle's garage with the intention of just doing some work on it to keep it running to use in the summer. As time went on (and the car being 60 miles away) I didnt have the time to do any work on it as my job took me abroad for 38 weeks of the year. So the vehicle just sat ina nice cozy garage. Then we had the pleasure of COVID and lockdown but the car was still in the garage andwas started periodically by my uncle. Then in 2023 the car was moved to a field and put under a cover on thesame land but still started regularly. I decided that the car should be brought back to my home to do some minor repairs on it. Now im being told it needs to go as its taking up space on the drive so its time for someone to give it the TLC it deserves. V5c is included. as is partial service history and reciepts for some works done
In the last few months I have replaced the Head unit and display as the head unit was a none standard VDOand the display had LCD bleed.The unit was replaced with an OEM Delco CD500 and a refurbished Display (as seen in the pictures) which works displayingRDS information and also has the removable anti theft panel.
The 1.6 engine runs very well and with a battery on starts 1st time and doesnt smoke The car has been SORN since April 2019 and the current mileage is 142747The last MOT showed that the car passed with 1 advisory - Nearside front subframe starting to corrode.The underside of the vehicle was Waxoyl'd by the previous owner There is a towbar and electrics on the car (not tested)The photo's show the condition of the body work which for a vehicle that has just had its 28th Birthday (Registered 1/8/98) is in quite good condition bar a few minor rust bubbles and 1 scratch on the rear passengerquarter.The roof is electric which works and is water tight.The interior is very good for the age of the car with only the leather gear and handbrake gaiters which have perishedThe Wind stopper which fits over the rear seats is also included with the car.
SOME BAD POINTS --THE BRAKES ARE NO LONGER WORKING, they were fine when it went into storage but now the pedal just goes straight to the floor.Minor rust bubbles and one scratch on the rear quarter.The rear passenger window doesnt go down but is water tight when the roof is upWill need at least 1 tyre maybe 2 There is no battery on the car as this died in storage and hasnt been replaced.THIS WILL NEED TO BE TRAILERED AWAY DUE TO THE BRAKES. BUT CAN BE DRIVEN ONTO THE TRAILER.
There are not many of this model/year/engine left on the road according to howmanyleft website. 1 MOT'd and 4 SORNWhen I purchased this I drove it 120 miles from Leicester to the garage with no issues. 
I will be sad to see this go and hope that the next custodian can bring it back to its former glory, I would say acouple of winter weekends could see this car back out on the road next summer.
