1979 FORD GRANADA MK2 2.8 GHIA AUTOMATICCOSMOS BLUEMOT & TAX Exempt (Historic vehicle)
It has only covered 69,000mls and has 3 previous keepers, one of them being the guy i purchased it from, and the one before him was Birmingham Bristol Street Motors where he bought it from in 1983 It still has its original Bristol Street Motors number plates fitted.
I bought this lovely Granada from a friend of a friend in October last year from an elderly gent who cherished it, he was an avid member back in the day of a Ford Granada Owners Club and he regularly took it to car shows including exhibiting it at the Birmingham NEC Motor Show on a few occasions.He purchased it from Bristol Street Motors when it was only 4yrs old and he took it of the road in 1999, He always had it stored away in a garage both during its time on and off the road during his 43yrs of ownership.For an ongoing project which has spent the last 27yrs off the road stored in a garage, it is a good strong basis.
- WORK CARRIED OUT -I had it recommissioned between March and April with all new fuel lines, the fuel tank was removed, cleaned out, painted and refitted, the car came to me with a new Webber carb which i had reconditioned with a rebuild kit due to the long term storage. the whole underside of the car was cleaned up, painted and protected (A video of the underside of the car before this was carried out has been added) I had the cylinder heads reconditioned with new inlet and exhaust valves & unleaded valve seats. a new water pump was fitted. It has a reconditioned radiator which was supplied with the car and a new battery. a new handbrake cable and drop links were fitted too. I've had the wheels powder coated with new tyres fitted and it will also come with a new set of wheel nuts. I had a towbar fitted and the car fully serviced, it also had new front brake callipers in 1999 before being taken off the road along with new discs & pads.It passed an MOT in April after this work was completed.
Unfortunately, I have not had the time to complete or enjoy using it, as I have other projects which are taking up all of my spare time, and due to the loss of indoor storage space recently, I thought it was best to thin down my collection and let this one go.
- VEHICLE CONDITION -It is a solid car, which has never been welded and doesn't require any either. although it does require some tidying up as it does have some surface rust along the front valance from where it had a chin spoiler fitted and it has a couple of surface rust spots that will require some attention, there are areas of the car that will require paint as some of the paint has micro blistered due to the long term storage and paint has come away from the sills, but the sills are in a solid condition.Its dashboard is in great condition having no cracks.The old Moss alarm and immobiliser will need removing, as the alarm no longer works and the immobiliser sometimes kicks in, as i found out while sitting at a set of traffic lights, but disconnect the battery for 5min and its ok to drive again, and for this reason, I would advise collecting it on a trailer if you plan to come any distance.It is a good car for 47yrs old and would easily make a fantastic example with very little effort as most of the work left to do now is cosmetic.
The V5 is in my name and i also have a couple of the old V5`s showing previous owners.
