Mk1 Ford Escort Cosworth YB with RS500 block, a very serious and exceptionally well-specified car built around an original Escort GT shell with documented 1970s RAC Rally competition history. The shell itself has genuine period competition provenance, supported by its original RAC Rally passport/logbook, period photographs and a substantial history file containing invoices, receipts, build information and supporting documentation.

It is an extremely quick and brings a smile to your face with approximately 413bhp and a kerb weight around 700kg.

Shell, Provenance & Rally History

The car is based on an original Escort GT shell with documented competition history dating back to the 1970s. In its original competition specification, the shell ran a Crossflow on twin Weber 40s, consistent with the period documentation.

RS500-Specification Cosworth YB

The engine was rebuilt in late 2014 by Lee Marshall of Barum Engines Ltd to a documented RS500-type specification.

Specification includes:

·  Genuine RS500 thick-wall Cosworth YB block

·  Accralite forged turbo pistons

·  Genuine WRC multi-layer steel head gasket

·  Long head-stud kit

·  High-pressure oil pump with oil spray jets

·  Garrett T35 hybrid turbo with uprated internals and ball-bearing conversion

·  Motorsport fuelling system

·  Alloy fuel tank with swirl pot

·  Samco silicone hose set

·  Pipercross foam cone intake

·  External wastegate and dump valve

The engine has covered only approximately 2,500 miles since the rebuild.

It has been rolling-road tested at 413bhp, with the dyno printout included in the history file.

A recorded 164mph was also achieved on the dyno.

At approximately 700kg, the resulting power-to-weight ratio is approaching 600bhp per tonne.
