THE LISTING
About this vehicle
You cannot ignore the evergreen appeal of a Mk1 Escort with its trademark Coke Bottle styling. Now that all the replacement panels are available, these cars can practically be rebuilt from the ground up.This car is a recent South African import so right-hand drive. A 1600 Crossflow motor has been installed but as yet it remains unchecked so could possibly be seized. Hopefully not. I will confirm when known. The gearbox is out of the car but included as is the prop.
I will give you some detail on the state of the body as this is the area where many hours will need spending. From the front, the engine bay looks good and square. The inner wings look solid and have the reinforced shock towers associated with the heavy duty SA shells. While you may get away with the passenger side inner wing, the driver's side has perforated metal just below the line of the strut reinforcement panel. The bulkhead is original and looks strong. Also the tunnel has not been butchered as is often the case with these imports. The dividing line across from below the bubble isn't too bad either but there is some corrosion in this seam.
The scuttle area below the windscreen appears sound including both ends. The screen itself is ok and all other glass is present apart from one quarter light. The roof is clean and generally free of dents and the gutters are fine too.
The passenger side door appears better than the driver's but both may well lend themselves to re-skinning if necessary. The door jambs are scraggy and may well need replacing. I couldn't get the driver's door open at the time of the photos. Both rear quarters appear half decent but as you can see - at some time "Works" arches have been fitted. These are glass fibre and appear actually quite neat imo. Depends on the look and standard you require as to whether you leave them or not. From the inside of the boot you can appreciate how sound the tubs are and also observe the job on the arches which may well lend itself to reversal with the help of steel repair panels.
The rear panel is terrible - a self made effort from sheet steel presumably in the absence of the proper article. This area is definitely a candidate for the offerings of Magnum. Other panel providers are available ☺
This brings me to the largest area of welding and panels needed on the car and that is the underside / floor area:The outer and inner sills all need replacing as do at least the passenger footwells. The bulkhead / tunnel areas look ok and should prove a good starting point for the welding repairs. Even the chassis legs in this middle area are likely to need some repairs or replacement. Those at the rear of the car where the spring hangers are look ok, although you will need a boot floor panel between them.
I can assist with the V5. For anyone paying "screen" price, I may offer free delivery depending on where you are and also throw a freebie into the mix in the form of the 6 dial dash seen in the last photo ☺ Chippers and low ballers will be excluded these privileges.
Disclaimer! Don't take my word for it. Come and view for yourself. I usually do my descriptions with beer goggles on! ☺For an appointment just call or message Steve 07889 286559. Thank you for reading.
