THE LISTING
About this vehicle
Here we have an iconic nineties Hot-Hatch, a Mk3 Fiesta 1.6S from 1991. Positioned just below the XR2i when new, the 1.6S had 90bhp, stiffer sports suspension and updated brakes compared to the ‘normal’ mk3s, as well as unique bumpers, rear spoiler and long range lamps from the factory. This lovely little thing has an advisory-free MOT til August 2027, and has had a huge amount of work carried out in the last couple of years, including over £2000-worth of welding. Whilst it may not be a perfect show-winning example, I think you’d have to go a long way to find a more solid example than this, and it is of course incredibly fun to drive!
I am selling the car on behalf of her owner, who has had a good amount of work carried out on the car in the time he has owned it, and has used the car very sparingly indeed. The 93k miles are original, and average out at under 3k a year. The metalwork that has been carried out includes;
New sills
New rear wheel arches
Rear wing/filler neck
New front wings, and much more besides!
In addition to this, the car has recently been given a timing belt change, and it would appear that everything has been very well maintained over the years. Aside from a very small blemish on the lower A pillar, I can’t find any rot or bubbling anywhere at all on the car, it really is incredibly solid! Originally white, the car has been repainted in Radiant Red, and although it is probably best described as a ‘6/10’ paint job, it presents very smartly indeed. There are a few knocks and dents here and there, but nothing that I wouldn’t reasonably expect from any car of this age. I have included dozens of photos of the car and every panel further down the listing, so please do have a look - these tell the story better than words ever can!
The interior is in good shape, with the very comfy sports-styled seats not showing any rips or tears. The sun roof operates as it should, as do the electric windows. There doesn’t currently seem to be power to the radio, and the driver’s door is in need of an actuator fitted to allow the central locking to work. This is included, along with plenty of other spares, including a flared body-kit, and a freshly powder-coated rocker cover and new gasket set. On the road, this is naturally a lot of fun to drive. Plenty of power and great handling, these little things have certainly stood the test of time, and this example is no exception. The alloys have been recently refurbished too, and look fantastic.
All in all, a very bonny little thing which has scope to be improved as time goes on if you so desire. All of the hard work has been done though, and it could very easily be used just as it is, and would always put a tremendous smile on your face! These cars are a little outside my area of knowledge, but please do ask any questions you have and I will do my best to answer them as best I can.
The car is located in Halifax, although nationwide delivery is available at incredibly reasonable prices, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch for a quote. I would be very happy to give any prospective buyer a video call to show them around the car if it would help, and there are plenty of photos below. Whilst I feel I have described and photographed the car as accurately and honestly as I can and in good conscience, the description must be treated only as my opinion, and there is of course no substitute for seeing the car in the flesh. One person’s charming daily driver can easily be another person’s full restoration project, and of course, my idea of what may be acceptable flaws in a classic vehicle may be different to yours. I am very happy working on these old machines, but I must state that I am neither a professional mechanic nor an MOT tester. As such, I would always prefer the car to be fully inspected first before any money changing hands, to ensure that you are totally happy, and that your evaluation of the car matches mine. The car is of course sold as seen, with no warranty implied or given; As with any classic car, these are not perfect examples, and every one that we sell will have imperfections/quirks/oil leaks, and will present different challenges as time goes on. Whilst I have described the car as honestly as possible, with the best will in the world things that are working one day may not always work the next, and so we must expect the unexpected, and routine maintenance and troubleshooting will always be something that comes as part of the enjoyment of classic ownership!
