About this vehicle
Hi, welcome to the sale of my beloved toy, 1999 Audi S4 B5. Its an ongoing project of mine, and needs a few bits done (all listed below) although it is fully working and can be driven. The only reason for sale is I have other priorities now, and can't spend more money on this unfortunately.Ive owned this S4 for the past 5 years, and my friend being the previous owner for 2 years - we can say i know this car for 7 years now. Its currently sitting on 237,000 km or 147,000 miles.
Please read the ad carefully as I have written down everything honestly, the good and bad bits - as they all have - so nobody wastes each others time;
The car drives and stops fine - the main issue being it could benefit with the engine pulling out to change a exhaust manifold gasket and possibly fix some oil leaks (explained below)Ive done a service on it very recently, also had a rear suspension overhaul this year which you can see in the photos. I made a Excel list of all the parts its had over the course of my ownership, and my friend (previous owner) also has a list. There is also paper history with the car for the other previous owners. This is a original K03 engine, with a stage 1 map which should be pushing around 315 hp. Below I made a list of what the car has / what needs doing:
CHASSIS:Recently rebuilt rear suspension costing me roughly £3k. Everything on the rear is poly bushed, subframe has aluminium bushes from Verkline. Arm links replaced and everything sandblasted & painted. I was going to do the front suspension in the future but it still holds well and passed MOT with no problems.
The car is sitting on AP coilovers, and it handles firm / stiff & holds the ground nicely round corners. Can be a little loud / hard on slight bumps on road, due to the polybushed and aluminium bushed rear - but i prioritized stiffness over comfort. Although on motorway / A-road high speeds its very comfortable.
The sills will need attention in the future, the rears have been fixed while suspension was being done, but the fronts are still a bit damaged from jacking it up in the past. There is also a slight bump under the drivers feet (i think someones jack slipped before) but i never notice it when driving.
ENGINE:Standard K03 with a stage 1 map. Recently serviced, I have always serviced it myself every 3-4k miles. It has had the clutch replaced for a LUK Rs4 one.Timing belt and water pump was done in 2022, which is only about 5000 miles ago (it hasnt done much at all)
The temperature always holds 90 Degrees, never went over, even in extreme heat.
It will need a couple gaskets changing; ive noticed rocker cover gaskets started to leak slightly,and it has a exhaust gasket leak - i believe its the drivers side exhaust manifold gasket or manifold to turbo gasket, you can slightly smell the fumes in the engine bay when starting the car and you can hear the ignition ticking where the exhaust gases leak. I was going to change this prior to the sale, but i think the engine needs to come out to do it properly, and i dont have the possibility at the moment.
It has a custom straight through exhaust installed, which sounds really nice, this is the part that definitely makes people's heads turn!
BRAKES:Ive upgraded the front brakes to new 18Z calipers (cost of over £1k with new discs and pads) Rear brake calipers are fairly new also, and i have installed braided lines all over. Underneath the car, there are also brand new hard lines that run from the front to the rear. Had them done with the suspension overhaul.New handbrake cables too. The car stops fast with no issues at high speeds, its a perfect setup for more power.
Handbrake cables are new but will need re-adjustment from underneath the car as they sometimes catch on the drive shaft and rattle.
INTERIOR:Overall its in good condition for the age, the seats dont have any rips, its a custom colour interior if you like, as ive had white seats and door cards put in, but the carpet is original grey. I put some custom material i found on the A pillars and parcel shelf as the original material was damaged.
I tried to replace the headliner couple years ago but cut it a bit too short around the sunroof (first time doing it) but it didnt botherme enough to do it again so i left it. It doesn't sag in the middle anymore though so thats a plus.
In the boot there is a custom subwoofer box which i left in, I had two 10" subs in the back so youre welcome to wire in your own ones or just take out the box.There is NO audio in the car currently, front door cards have no speakers in either, only the headunit. Ive had a custom audio system in there before, and was going to change it completely but now the plans have changed and unfortunately got no speakers left.
BUT it is ready for new speakers, i have included the adapters to go in and Ive put in new wiring all over, there are high quality wires running from the front doors to the boot where they can be connected to an amplifier. All you have to do is install new speakers, amplifier and connect.
EXTERIOR:The paint could do with a bit of TLC - it does have the very common problems like the boot trim corroding and one of the wheel arches as seen in photos. It does have some stone chips / scratches in places as to be expected, i tried to show it in photos as best as i can.
I was going to give it a full respray in the future, but honestly maybe just the bumpers being repainted, tailgate sorted and a paint correction would be good.
