1992 Vauxhall Nova Saab B204 Turbo – GSi/SRi Style – Serious Performance Build

A seriously interesting and highly modified 1993 Vauxhall Nova, finished in the iconic Flame Red and fitted with a Saab B204 turbo engine conversion.

This is NOT an original factory GSi. It started life as a Nova and has subsequently been transformed using a mixture of GSi/SRi components and a substantial performance conversion. The result is a lightweight old-school Nova with considerably more performance than the original car ever had.

Dream Car Giveaways advertised the car at 240bhp when it was featured in 2022. We would treat that as the historical specification rather than a current dyno-certified figure, but one thing is for sure. It's fast!

DOCUMENTED HISTORY & WORK

One of the particularly appealing aspects of this Nova is the amount of documented work we have with the car.

An August 2022 invoice from Odd Autos, totalling £4,800, documents substantial work including:

• Welding to inner arches and inner chassis leg
• Engine and turbo removal/refitting
• Engine bay repaint
• Cam cover and intercooler hose refurbishment
• Cracked exhaust manifold repair
• Replacement rear wheel bearings
• Radiator re-securing
• New oil catch tank
• Full stainless 304 exhaust system
• New spark plugs
• Oil and filter change
• Coolant replacement
• Window mechanism lubrication
• New longer wheel bolts
• Dashboard clock/rev-counter work

There is also a November 2023 Rally Design invoice for £796.11, documenting further brake upgrades including a Nova/Astra brake kit, drilled discs, EBC Greenstuff Dynalite pads and a four-line brake hose kit.

So although this is very much a modified enthusiast car, there is some excellent paperwork accompanying it to help document the work carried out.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE CAR

The Nova has always had a huge following amongst enthusiasts, and for good reason. Small, lightweight and mechanically simple, they make an excellent base for performance builds.

This particular car takes that idea considerably further with the Saab B204 turbo conversion. With a relatively small and lightweight Nova shell combined with turbocharged performance, it makes for a very entertaining and unusual package.

It is also worth stressing again that this is not being sold as a genuine factory GSi. It is a modified Nova incorporating GSi/SRi parts and a serious turbocharged conversion. We believe that is actually part of its appeal.
