After looking high and low for a light drivable project xr2i a couple of years ago I finally found one. Kept in an indoor warehouse after its MOT failure by the previous owner in 2022. He said the plan was to do the MOT work himself but relationships and life in general got in the way and his relationship situation meant he had to sell his cars . He was using the car quite often as a “ tidy usable classic “ and he had it a few years before the MOT failure .I bought it , had it shipped down to the South Coast and had it delivered to FROSTS main dealer in Shoreham and they set about doing the work .The list of work is long and is as follows (and I have all the paperwork) .
Braking - New n/s/f Calliper, brake lines (all round) ,hoses, discs/pads,new rear drums (the old ones looked horrible in broken red paint), fluids , shoes , and new wheel cylinders all round.
Suspension- New front springs , new rear springs and rear shock absorbers. New front top mounts, both lower arms , ball joints , tie rod ends , drop links , stabiliser links .
Steering - n/s/f driveshaft , wheel alignment , 4 new tyres , 4 wheel bearings , £250 restitched original steering wheel .
Mechanical - Cambelt and waterpump,Full service , new coil pack , new belts , new leads , new battery
Body - Repainted both bumpers , full compound / polish , new tyre valve caps, wiper blades all round , exhaust rubbers. New Ford badge for tailgate (have not stuck it on yet) New front mirrors and housing . New number plates ( old ones still here )
Inside - new stereo (cd,bluetooth) but I still have the original radio tape unit in good condition . New interior clock (last one was broken)New floor mats . Untouched parcel shelf.
I have probably missed a few things but all the paperwork is here .
To generalise ….
Decent condition for age . 95k with lots of old MOTs to prove its history including the all important pre digital (pre 2006) MOT certificates . I have a full comprehensive printout of the cars whole history with previous owners showing how many days each owner had the car for and all MOT records . All MOT history .HPI clear with no accident or stolen markers . The car had a private plate for a couple years during its 33 year lifetime. No service history booklet as such but receipts for some services and a folder full of receipts and bills , old Mots and a few old tax discs in a nice XR2i folder.2 keys , 2 fobs . Drives nicely . Stops nicely . All braking components replaced .
Being 33 years old there are of course imperfections, a couple of missing screws from speak covers and sideskirts , creaks, squeaks and other bits that could do with a little attention but nothing so bad that it affects the drive or the looks . Its an old car and as such , expectations should be realistic !An advisory on the MoT for a very slight oil leak . It has only lost a few droplets over a 2 year period and I think its coming from the sump gasket as the amount of oil its losing is minuscule. If the car does not sell by September I may just do all the gaskets and sell next summer for a bit more. Its had some bodywork done in the past.Small rust bubbles in a few places and some red paint has come off parts of the body skirts but nothing bad.The exhaust has a little blow ( passed mot ) The steering when straightening up is sometimes a little harder ( non power steering model ) Slight whine from somewhere but drives pretty much perfectly though and as its not getting worse I have not investigated it yet .
Some very slight interior creaks from the plastics !
The little plastic clip that holds the bonnet rod has broke. They are £5 online so this may be done before it sells.
Just little things that are commensurate with the age of the vehicle but worth mentioning.
I start it every Sunday morning during the winter months when its in my garage. Only done around 1200 miles in the last 18 months. I have had it nearly 2 years and driven to my Mothers 40 miles round trip along the south coast on a Sunny Sunday morning many times but it only comes out the garage at weekends , if its nice . Not seen the rain since 2021.

Reason for sale is I want the white Peugeot 205 cti cabriolet or the Astra GTE cabriolet on ebay right now ! This is the ONLY reason for sale as me and the missus have plans next year and require a Retro convertible ! I cant have both I have a tiny garage for only one car otherwise id keep them both.

Milage may go up slightly as the sun is out and the evenings are perfect. Also a local Ford show to go to next month 👍I have now purchased the Astra Gte cabriolet mentioned in auction so I now need the funds from the Xr2i to pay the loan off that purchased the gte !
Id rather a straight sale but to make this happen quicker I may take something cheap in a px deal ( I buy yours you buy mine ) but money my way obviously as I need to pay a loan off !
