About this vehicle
A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY – THREE-DOOR XR4i COSWORTH REPLICA PROJECT
Here we have my Ford Sierra XR4i three-door Cosworth replica, which I am now offering for sale.
If you’ve ever wanted the look of a three-door Sierra Cosworth but don’t want to spend the huge money that genuine cars now command, this could be a very interesting opportunity.
The car started life as a genuine Sierra XR4i three-door, making it a particularly good base for a Cosworth replica.
It has been built with the full Cosworth-style appearance and has already been made into a running and driving car.
🔥 RUNNING & DRIVING
The car is currently fitted with:
- 2.0-litre Ford twin-cam engine
- 5-speed manual gearbox
- XR4x4 rear axle/differential
- Running and driving
- Ford YB Cosworth rocker cover
The YB rocker cover is a great finishing touch. When you first open the bonnet, it genuinely gives the impression of a Cosworth engine at first glance and certainly catches people out!
Obviously, the engine is not a Cosworth YB — it is the 2.0-litre twin-cam — but the rocker cover adds to the overall Cosworth appearance.
🏁 FULL THREE-DOOR COSWORTH LOOK
The car has been converted to give it the iconic three-door RS Cosworth appearance, making it instantly recognisable.
The current whale tail is probably the weakest part of the car and would benefit from being replaced with a better-quality one. I’m mentioning this honestly rather than pretending it is perfect.
Fit a good whale tail and the car will look considerably better.
🌞 GENUINE XR4i BASE – WITH SUNROOF
One of the things I particularly like about this car is that it started life as an XR4i.
It retains the factory sunroof, which is something you don’t see on many three-door Cosworth replicas.
A lot of replicas have been built from other Sierra models, so having the original XR4i three-door base and its sunroof makes this an interesting car in its own right.
🏎️ WHAT I HAD PLANNED FOR IT
I had planned to take the car further and give it a proper old-school motorsport look.
My idea was to fit a roll cage, paint/finish the car in black and run period-style Texaco competition graphics/stickers.
I think a black, caged three-door Cosworth replica would look absolutely fantastic.
Of course, the next owner can take it in whatever direction they want, but I think the Texaco-inspired route would make this a seriously eye-catching car.
🔧 A GREAT PROJECT TO FINISH
This is not being sold as a finished concours car.
It is a project which has already been made into a running and driving car, but it will need further work and finishing by its new owner.
The whale tail would definitely be one of the first things I would change.
There is plenty of potential here for someone who knows their way around old Fords and wants to create something genuinely different.
WHY THIS CAR?
✔ Genuine XR4i three-door base
✔ Full three-door Cosworth replica appearance
✔ 2.0-litre twin-cam
✔ 5-speed manual
✔ XR4x4 rear axle/differential
✔ Running and driving
✔ Ford YB Cosworth rocker cover
✔ Factory XR4i sunroof
✔ Huge potential to finish into a very convincing Cosworth replica
✔ Excellent basis for a period motorsport/Texaco-style build
Three-door Sierras are getting harder and harder to find, while genuine three-door RS Cosworths are now well into serious money.
This is an opportunity to buy a three-door XR4i-based Cosworth replica, already running and driving
PLEASE NOTE
THIS IS NOT A GENUINE FORD SIERRA RS COSWORTH.
It is an XR4i-based Cosworth replica and is being advertised honestly as such.
The car is an old Ford project and will require further work. Please don’t expect a finished show car.
The current whale tail is not particularly good and I would replace it.
Please look carefully at all the photographs and make sure you are happy with the condition and specification before bidding.
Viewing is welcome and recommended.
A very rare three-door Sierra project with loads of potential – and the right ingredients to build something special.
Will need some paint and tidying up, it has 2 bucket seats and harnesses, I wanted to put a k24 turbo Honda lump in it but something else I’ve always wanted has just come up for sale.
You will need to trailer the car away as it has no mot. It has had welding but it is a 1984 car. It’s a good looking motor and a replica of an icon. Get yourself a replica rs500 whale tail and rear boot spoiler and it will be awesome
