THE LISTING

About this vehicle

Up for sale is my RX-7 FB 1981, 12a rotary streetport owned for over 8 years with all the history of what has been done to it in my ownership, thousands have been spent during that time and it's still being used as a run around, car meets etc and went to the German Mazda museum last year (1600+ miles with no issues at autobahn speeds)
It was resprayed to the factory Stardust metallic blue back in 2021, with the gap between 2020-2021 as the person doing the work kept delaying my project as it became much bigger than initially expected (had to fabricate rear arches and other bodywork to remove all the rust/filler). It went back on the road August 2021.
Interior was when I got it a mixture of brown and black, so has been returned/items sourced to factory black, with the rear seat coming from a Japanese import with perforated leather (I have the matching front seat covers, but the drivers one is in a bad state and the other is good on a seat frame). Currently I have installed an RX8 seat with base into the passenger position as it is more comfortable, the drivers seat is the original black tombstone as the RX8 seat sat too high for me (but it is available). The original black tombstone passenger seat is also available. Or, I can refit the two original black vinyl tombstone seats for the buyer (different seatbelt sizes to the RX8).
The 12a engine has had a mild street port done by Tim at RX Motors back in March 2022 and has done probably 13K miles since then and pulls perfectly. Rat's nest delete has been done and a Gilmer pulley set has been fitted to ensure the belt cannot break. Uprated 4 row racing radiator fitted, new hoses, with large push fan in the nose cone controlled by a Davies Craig thermatic fan switch kit, with manual switch override and led to show the fan is on in the center console. A Mishimoto sandwich plate has been fitted along with sensors for oil pressure, oil temp, water temp and these are displayed inside the center console in a triple gauge pod using Prosport 52mm dials to ensure you can be aware if there are any heat issues (the original engine was rebuilt due to it overheating and loosing coolant - not anymore).
The Fuel tank has been professionally refurbished along with new fuel pump and sender to ensure no issues with fuelling.
Steering wheel has had a leather cover fitted around it , as the rubber was starting to get sticky to the touch due to age. Gear knob has been replaced with a Mazdaspeed logo item that is lovely to the touch, but will come with the original Mazda RX7 gearknob for the purist.
Headlights have been returned to new glass units with up-rated bulbs, I do have some plastic led units that will come with the car which give brighter light, just not a fan of the light pattern (same as MX5 MK1 so lots of choices). Replaced the headlight pop-up mechanism bushes with Sakebahn Classic items for smoother up/down of the headlights. Same for front wiper motors. Rear fog light from the photos has now been integrated into existing rear lights using a dual brightness bulb.
Racing Beat Springs with new KYB Shocks installed all round, uprated rear Racing Beat anti-roll bar, replaced bump-stops. Car was already setup with other polybushed items.
Brake calipers on the front have been refurbished by BCS along with new flexible brake hoses. The rears are 2nd hand as BCS had originally an issue with refurbishing those - I have them completed now and they have not been fitted to the car and are available for extra. New brake master cylinder, new clutch slave cylinder fitted.
New battery in September 2025 just before going on the Germany trip. Igniter coils, HT leads all replaced. Electric windows have had the relay upgrade applied to speed them up. Has a reversing camera linked to a dash cam/over mirror installation. Has an Android touchscreen installed on the dashtop which can do Android Auto / Apple Car play - there is no car stereo fitted otherwise, so I use a portable Bluetooth speaker for when I don't just want to listen to the engine brap. Undercar led strips to just give a talking point (can be integrated into the turn indicators) but easy to remove as just held on with 3M sticky tape.
Last 2 months have done air filter, oil filter, oil, spark plugs, replaced engine bay rubber hoses. Will embarrass quite a few cars 0-60 and loves to rev. Lots of other items have been replaced during my ownership like drop links, steering mounts etc.
Car has either the original 13" Mazda wheels refurbished to black / diamond cut fitted with road legal/racing/track day Toyo R888R 185/60 front and 205/60 rear OR with original 13" Mazda wheels refurbished in gloss black fitted with Yokohama 185/70 Advan A008. The first set are so grippy , but in colder wet weather they don't work so well. The latter tyres are good all year round just don't have the awesome grip in the dry of the R888R's. It's one set or the other - the alternative set will be sold independently.
Undersealed at time of the last MOT (August 2026) , you could choose not to continue the MOT as it is zero tax now as registered as a historic car.
Bad points , which I am being picky. Headliner drops a bit at the rear hatch and is loose fitting at the front - I did not want to glue this to the roof.Rear wiper / heater both don't work - could be a wiring issue - does need one terminal re-soldering to the rear heater, but never worried me - not an MOT issue.Headlight washer jets don't function anymore and I have been advised that it looks like they were stuck down when the respray was done to the car.Automatic choke does not stay out and close itself, so I turn the choke handle round to lock it in place and then dis-engage it when the car is warm - only needed in cold weather.Engine bay is satin black (like the whole car was when I bought it), too much hassle to repaint the engine bay, so just accept it.Paintwork is still awesome , but on close inspection has a few marks, hard to see, but this is not a concourse car and is driven and enjoyed - it needs the odd redline / beeper to clean out carbon from the rotor housings.
I love this car and have had several Mazda RX7s over the last 30 years, also Mazda RX8, MX5s MX3 , but time to move on. It puts a smile on my face whenever I drive it. Other projects force the sale. Lots of items I have missed off the replaced list, lots of paperwork to prove it from my ownership.
