1985 Opel Manta GTE – 66,953 Miles – Genuine One-Owner-From-New Example

For sale is a 1985 Opel Manta GTE, showing 66,953 miles, and an exceptionally original example that has been stored in a garage since 1995.

This is a genuine one-owner-from-new car. I am technically the second registered keeper, having put the car into my name in order to obtain the V5, but the car had one owner throughout its previous life.

The car

The Manta has remained remarkably original and standard, with no major modifications or obvious alterations.

The interior is particularly impressive, with the original Recaro seats and trim complete and in excellent condition.

The shell is exceptionally solid for a car of this age. The sills, rear pockets, strut towers and other important areas are solid, with no significant structural holes. There is surface corrosion underneath and to some running gear, as you would expect from a car that has been stored for decades.

The red paintwork is not perfect and will require attention in places. Some panels may be suitable for correction/polishing if the intention is to preserve as much of the original paint as possible, while other areas would benefit from paintwork.

Engine & recommissioning

After approximately 31 years in storage, the engine has now been brought back to life.

A fresh Mobil engine oil and filter change has been carried out and several injector hoses have been replaced.

The engine currently starts, runs and sounds very healthy and happy. It is presently being run from a standalone clean fuel supply because I do not currently trust the condition of the original fuel tank and fuel system after such a long period of storage.

I have a video of the car running and it can be started for prospective buyers during viewing.

The car will also move under its own power and the gearbox appears to operate correctly, although I have not driven the car on the road.

Important information

This is not being sold as a road-ready or fully recommissioned car.

There is currently no MOT, and the car will require further recommissioning before being used on the road. The original fuel tank/fuel system will require attention, along with the brakes, tyres and other components that should be checked after such a long period of storage.

The buyer should therefore view this as a genuine restoration/recommissioning project, rather than a finished road car.

That said, the combination of the exceptionally solid shell, very low mileage, original interior, originality, documentation and genuine one-owner history makes this a particularly interesting Manta GTE for someone looking for an honest example to preserve and recommission.
