A reluctant sale

I'll be honest up front: I don't want to sell this car. Life has moved on and it deserves to be driven properly rather than sat waiting for the weekends I no longer have. I've owned it as an enthusiast, maintained it as an enthusiast, and I'd rather it went to someone who'll appreciate what it is.

If you know your 911s, you already know why the 997.2 is the one to have.

This is the second-generation 997, which brought two things that make it the sweet spot of modern 911 ownership:

• The 3.8-litre DFI engine. Direct fuel injection, roughly 385bhp, and — importantly for anyone who has read the forums — a completely redesigned bottom end. The IMS bearing concern that haunts earlier M96/M97 cars simply does not apply here. This is the engine that ended that conversation.
• PDK. The dual-clutch gearbox replaced the old Tiptronic and transformed the car. Instant, seamless shifts, no torque converter slush, and it still hands you full control on the paddles when you want it.

Combine that with the last of the "analogue-feeling" 911 bodyshells before the larger 991 arrived, and you have a car that is genuinely usable every day but still feels like an event every time you start it.

Service history and mechanical condition

Full service history, all work carried out by Porsche main dealer and Porsche specialists only — no back-street garages, no corner-cutting. The full book pack and invoices come with the car and I'm happy to talk any prospective buyer through every entry.

Recent work:

• Last major service: April 2025. Worth noting for anyone unfamiliar — these cars run on two-year service intervals, so it is well inside schedule.
• Fuel pump replaced by a marque specialist.
• New N-rated tyres fitted under 8,000 miles ago. N-rating means Porsche-approved rubber, developed specifically for this chassis. It costs more and it matters — plenty of cars at this price point are running budget tyres.

Mechanically the car drives exactly as it should. Gearbox shifts cleanly, engine pulls hard and smoothly, no warning lights, no odd noises. Nothing has been deferred or ignored — where something needed doing, it was done properly, first time.

Condition — the honest version

I'd rather you hear it from me than find it on the inspection.

Bodywork: Very good for the year. There are some very minor marks consistent with a car of this age that has been used and enjoyed rather than hidden in a garage. Nothing structural, nothing that jumps out.

Rear light: There is a small chip on the rear light unit. It is cosmetic only, does not affect function, and did not affect the MOT. I've left it as-is so the next owner can decide whether to address it.

Interior: Leather in excellent order with normal light bolster wear on the driver's seat, no tears, no smoke, all electrics functioning

Roof: Operates correctly through the full cycle, fabric in good condition - small scuff, no leaks

No accident damage. finance balance cleared on collection. Viewing and inspection genuinely welcomed — I'd encourage any serious buyer to come and see it, drive it, and bring an independent inspection if you wish.
